WHEREAS, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), is a nerve disorder that causes chronic pain; and

WHEREAS, the symptoms of CRPS/RSD are often described as burning that is disproportionate to the severity of the initial injury, which may include swelling and extreme sensitivity to touch; and

WHEREAS, while CRPS/RSD was first identified before the Civil War, it remains a poorly understood condition with no known cure; and

WHEREAS, although no standard treatment of CRPS/RSD has been developed, prevention and early treatment of symptoms are recommended; in most cases, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it is likely to be; and

WHEREAS, on November 6, 2023, members of the CRPS/RSD community will celebrate the tenth annual Color the World Orange Day to spread awareness of this poorly understood pain disorder;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 6, 2023, as “CRPS/RSD AWARENESS DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
