Governor Cooper proclaimed Saturday, June 23 as Disabled American Veterans Day to honor North Carolina’s ill or injured veterans and the service of DAV members across North Carolina. Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a nonprofit charity that provides support for veterans across the nation.

Gov. Cooper today proclaimed June 14 to be the birthday of the U.S. Army in North Carolina, 243 years after the Second Continental Congress established the Army. Since the War for Independence, the U.S. Armed Forces have continued the tradition of securing our freedoms.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper welcomed military personnel to the Executive Mansion to honor Military Appreciation Month. Governor Cooper was joined by Secretary Larry Hall of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and First Lady Kristin Cooper.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper joined a group of military veterans, servicemembers, and their families at the State Capitol in Raleigh for a wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the sacrifices military veterans have made for our state and our country.

As part of Military Family Appreciation Month and leading up to the Veterans Day holiday, Governor Roy Cooper declared November 6-10, 2017 Employ a Veteran Week in North Carolina.

In advance of the Veterans Day Holiday, Governor Cooper declared this week to be Military Veterans Small Business Week and the month of November as Military Family Appreciation Month.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper signed into law House Bill 486, House Bill 487, and House Bill 120, which help reward members of the North Carolina National Guard and their families for their service. 

Kristin and I, along with millions of North Carolinians and Americans, honor the service and sacrifice of these brave individuals and their families.

Today, Governor Cooper’s office and Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Secretary Larry Hall responded to the legislature’s decision not to provide funding for the Eastern Carolina Veterans’ Cemetery. Instead, legislators directed Secretary Hall to keep all veterans’ cemeteries open, but did not provide any funding to do so.
