WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our state; and
WHEREAS, sufficient blood and plasma supplies are an ongoing public health need both locally and nationally, and our hospitals and medical centers rely on a readily available supply for our residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, one blood donation can help save more than one life, and although most of the United States population is eligible to donate blood, only about 3 percent actually do; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina is home to many organizations committed to raising awareness about the importance of blood donation, including Community Blood Centers of the Carolinas (CCBC), the American Red Cross, and others; and
WHEREAS, Blood Donation Day serves to remind us that we need to constantly replenish our blood and plasma supply through donation and community awareness;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 4, 2022, as “BLOOD DONATION DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
