Rules for Page Hosts

  • Single individuals may only host students of the same gender.
  • Page hosts, to include any adult living in the home, must pass a background check conducted by the Governor’s Clemency Office, including a check of the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry.
  • Page hosts must agree to a home visit prior to hosting pages, and to a follow-up home visit each year.
  • Page host homes must be safe and habitable.
  • Page hosts should disclose any pets ahead of hosting pages.
  • Page hosts must live within 30-mile radius of 325 N Salisbury Street.

Host Family Responsibilities

  • Provide page with their own bed, not in a shared room.
  • Provide page with access to a full working bathroom and privacy when using it.
  • Provide page with access to living area.
  • Provide page with clean linens during stay, to include sheets and towels.
  • Be able to provide page with transportation to and from the Governor’s Office at 325 N Salisbury Street each day. Pages with a valid driver license may be allowed to drive themselves with the permission of their parents/guardians.
    • Pages must report on Monday at 1:00 p.m. to the Governor’s Office in the Administration Building, 325 N Salisbury Street, downtown Raleigh. Tuesday through Thursday, pages serve from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
  • Provide breakfast and dinner during their stay, as well as snacks during the evenings. Provide access to food if the page wishes to bring a bagged lunch. Any dietary restrictions, preferences or food allergies will be communicated at least one week in advance by the page.
  • Provide appropriate hospitality and supervision during the page’s stay.
  • Collect payment of $100 for lodging, transportation, and meals from pages.
  • Review the Parental/Guardian Permission Form for guidance on pertinent medical conditions appropriate and after-work activities.
  • Help enforce the dress code by monitoring page attire before they leave your home daily.
    • Pages are expected to dress in business attire each day. Pages should wear comfortable business professional shoes for walking and dress appropriately for weather conditions.
  • Communicate with the page’s parents concerning any responsibility for damages during their stay. Note: The Governor’s Office will not be responsible for any damage done by pages.

Home Visit

After you submit your application, the Page Coordinator will schedule a home visit to assure that your home is suitable for Pages.

Things checked during the home visit:

  • The home has an overall level of cleanliness suitable for pages.
  • The home has a private bedroom where the page can stay during their visit.
  • There are bedding, linens and towels available for the page during their stay.
  • The kitchen area is clean and safe to use for food preparation.
  • Any pets or pet items in the home are clean.
  • Pets in the home are able to be separated from the page and are calm.
  • The home contains basic first aid items in case of injury.
  • The vehicle in which the Host intends to drive the page in safe and clean.
  • There is appropriate space to accommodate at least one page.

Schedule

Pages must report on Monday at 1:00 p.m. to the Governor’s Office in the Administration Building, 325 N Salisbury Street, downtown Raleigh. Tuesday through Thursday, pages serve from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Dress Code

Pages are expected to dress in business attire each day. Young men are required to wear dress slacks, coat and tie each day. Young women are expected to wear a skirt and blouse, a dress or a pantsuit each day. Pages should wear comfortable shoes for walking and dress appropriately for weather conditions.
