WHEREAS, North Carolina recognizes that our growth and strength depend in part on the safety and economic value of our homes, buildings, and infrastructure in everyday life and in times of natural disaster; and
WHEREAS, building safety and fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, tradespeople, design professionals, laborers, and others in the construction industry work year-round to ensure the safe construction of these buildings; and
WHEREAS, these professionals are dedicated members of the International Code Council, a United States based organization that brings together local, state, and federal officials to create and implement the highest-quality codes to protect us in the buildings where we live, learn, work, worship, and play; and
WHEREAS, Building Safety Month is sponsored by the International Code Council to remind the public about the critical role of our local code officials, who assure us of safe, efficient buildings; and
WHEREAS, the theme for Building Safety Month 2022, Safety for All: Building Codes in Action, encourages all North Carolinians to raise awareness about planning for safe and sustainable construction, career opportunities in building, understanding disaster mitigation, energy conservation, and creating a safe and abundant water supply for everyone; and
WHEREAS, each May, people are encouraged to recommit to improve building safety and economic investment at home and in the community, and to acknowledge the essential service provided by local and state building departments, fire prevention bureaus, and federal agencies in protecting lives and property;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May, 2022, as “BUILDING SAFETY MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
