WHEREAS, the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) Alliance, established on April 18, 1923, is a nonprofit volunteer organization of physician spouses and physicians, in collaboration with the North Carolina Medical Society, dedicated to advancing the health of North Carolinians through community education, service, and advocacy; and

WHEREAS, the NCMS Alliance, with the county Alliances, offers leadership, educational and networking opportunities, and social support in adjusting to a demanding and high stress life for its members; and

WHEREAS, throughout its history, the NCMS Alliance has also worked to help our state through community services and education and awareness efforts; and

WHEREAS, during World War II, the NCMS Alliance met troop trains, bought war bonds, raised funds for emergency medical field kits, funded the USS Fremont battle dressing station, collected surgical instruments and medical supplies in aid to Britain, and contributed 113,355 hours to the war effort; for these contributions, the organization was awarded the Treasury Award for Patriotic Service; and

WHEREAS, the NCMS Alliance held statewide symposia from 1999 through 2007 with nationally recognized experts on the forefront of child and adolescent development issues, bringing together teachers, counselors, policy makers, social workers, law enforcement personnel, parents, and others committed to improving the overall health and development of our youth; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina urges individuals and organizations across our state to utilize family support resources as needed to support the health and well-being of our children and families;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 18, 2023, as “CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF THE NORTH CAROLINA MEDICAL SOCIETY ALLIANCE” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
