MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH
2024
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, for generations, North Carolinians have proudly served our nation during times of conflict and peace; and
WHEREAS, our brave servicemen and women, their families, and loved ones have made immeasurable sacrifices to protect the freedoms we enjoy; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina is home to the largest populated Army base in the world and largest military presence in the nation, and this military presence has an annual economic impact of $80 billion that supports 653,000 jobs across the state; and
WHEREAS, more than 115,000 active-duty military personnel, 20,000 National Guard and Reserve service members, an estimated 800,000 military veterans, and their families live in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, these servicemembers and veterans are true leaders in our communities who impart courage, honor, valor, and dignity to their fellow North Carolinians; and
WHEREAS, during Military Appreciation Month, we are reminded of the essential role that the United States Armed Forces have played in the history and development of North Carolina, our great nation, and the world; and
WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Military Affairs and the people of North Carolina deem it is our responsibility this month and throughout the year, to honor, support, and recognize our North Carolina servicemembers and veterans, and remember with deep gratitude those who have given their lives in defense of our freedom;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May, 2024, as “MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
