WHEREAS, throughout our history, Americans of many faiths have turned to prayer for guidance, peace, and hope; and
WHEREAS, North Carolinians of different faith backgrounds pray to express their beliefs, seek help and strength, and give thanks for blessings; and
WHEREAS, a National Day of Prayer has been a part of our heritage since it was declared by the First Continental Congress in 1775; it was further established by a joint resolution in the United States Congress in 1952; and
WHEREAS, the theme for this year’s observance of the National Day of Prayer is Pray Fervently in Righteousness and Avail Much; and
WHEREAS, on this National Day of Prayer, let those of us who choose to do so join together to pray for our nation and our neighbors; may we pray for guidance, wisdom and mercy; and may we seek to unify our hearts, our communities, and our country through prayer;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 4, 2023, as “NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
