WHEREAS, there are over 3,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, there are six masters and doctoral level nurse anesthesia programs in North Carolina: Carolinas Medical Center/University of North Carolina Charlotte, Duke University, East Carolina University, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and Western Carolina University; and
WHEREAS, CRNAs are committed to ensuring high quality and affordable anesthesia care is accessible to patients across North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, CRNAs, in addition to their operating room duties in hospitals and surgical centers across North Carolina, have served at the forefront of the pandemic as volunteers deployed to some of the hardest hit parts of our nation; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina honors those CRNAs who are veterans and active-duty members of our armed forces providing anesthesia care for our United States military personnel on the front lines, on Navy ships, and on aircraft evacuation teams across the globe; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina joins in celebrating CRNA Week, and commends the more than 59,000 CRNAs across our nation for their commitment to patient access and excellent anesthesia care;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim January 22 – 28, 2023, as “NORTH CAROLINA CRNA WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
