WHEREAS, community corrections professionals work with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, playing a critical role to keep our communities safe; and
WHEREAS, community corrections professionals work tirelessly to help the formerly incarcerated and those involved with the justice system lead successful lives; and
WHEREAS, community corrections professionals have recently faced many unforeseen and unprecedented work environment challenges; and
WHEREAS, everyday community corrections professionals rise to the occasion and assist those they supervise in any way they can to be successful; and
WHEREAS, community corrections professionals collaborate every day with community agencies to secure resources, support, and assistance to people on parole, post-release supervision and probation; and
WHEREAS, more than 2,000 certified probation/parole officers work for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and supervise the approximately 76,000 justice-involved individuals across our state; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina’s community corrections officers and those across the nation have made the commitment to be agents of positive change in their communities, by dedicating their time, energy, and determination to those they supervise;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim July 17 – 23, 2022, as “PROBATION, PAROLE AND COMMUNITY SUPERVISION OFFICERS’ WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
