WHEREAS, community supervision professionals play an essential role working with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to keep our communities safe; and
WHEREAS, community supervision professionals dedicate themselves to assisting the formerly incarcerated and helping those involved with the justice system to lead successful lives; and
WHEREAS, community supervision professionals collaborate daily with community agencies to secure resources, support, and assistance to people on probation, parole, and post-release supervision; and
WHEREAS, community supervision professionals answer the call to help people in their communities in times of crisis, emergency, and natural disaster; and
WHEREAS, more than 2,000 certified probation/parole officers serve the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, supervising approximately 75,000 justice-involved individuals across our state; and
WHERAS, the Division of Community Supervision is dedicated to protection, innovation and rehabilitation; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina’s community supervision officers, and those across the nation, have made the vital commitment to make positive changes in their communities with their dedication, perseverance, and training;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim July 16 – 22, 2023, as “PROBATION, PAROLE, AND COMMUNITY SUPERVISION OFFICERS’ WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
