WHEREAS, public power is a crucial component of cities and towns across North Carolina, contributing to the overall health and development of communities by providing reliable electricity, excellent local service, and prompt restoration; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina's more than 70 public power cities and towns are among more than 2,000 across the country; and

WHEREAS, many of North Carolina's public power cities and towns have been providing electricity for more than 100 years; and

WHEREAS, public power meets the electric needs of around 40 million Americans, who make up almost 15 percent of electricity consumers; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina's public power utilities are valuable community assets that contribute to the well-being of the community and provide economic development opportunities; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina's public power utilities are dependable institutions that are committed to providing excellent service; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes Public Power Week and commends the public power cities and towns across our state for their outstanding contributions to our communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 3-9, 2021, as “PUBLIC POWER WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
