WHEREAS, North Carolinians are served every single day by public servants at the federal, state, county, and municipal levels; these dedicated professionals often go unrecognized as they do the work that helps to keep our nation running; and

WHEREAS, many public servants, including military personnel, law enforcement officers, firefighters, embassy employees, health care professionals, and others, risk their lives each day in service to the people of our state, our nation, and the world; and

WHEREAS, public servants also include teachers, doctors, scientists, train conductors, astronauts, nurses, safety inspectors, laborers, computer technicians, social workers, and many others; these professionals work tirelessly to serve the American people with efficiency and integrity; and

WHEREAS, the public employees of the State of North Carolina and all levels of government within our state are committed to the highest standards and are dedicated to providing excellent service to the people of North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, public servants at every level support and allow for continuity that would otherwise be impossible in a democracy that regularly changes its leaders and elected officials; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes the contributions of time and talent by public employees, and the importance of the service they provide;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 7 – 13, 2023, as “PUBLIC SERVICE WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
