WHEREAS, public works professionals focus on infrastructure, facilities and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the people of North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, these infrastructure facilities and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, who are engineers, managers, and employees at all levels of government and the private sector; and

WHEREAS, public works professionals are responsible for rebuilding, improving, and protecting our nation’s transportation, water supply, water treatment and solid waste systems, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential for our citizens; and

WHEREAS, it is important for the citizens and civic leaders of North Carolina to gain knowledge and understanding of the importance of public works and public works programs in their respective communities; and

WHEREAS, this year marks the 62nd annual National Public Works Week (NPWW), a time to celebrate the tens of thousands of people in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and public work services collectively; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina joins the American Public Works Association and other interested agencies and organizations in recognizing the contributions of public works professionals to the health, safety, and welfare of North Carolina;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 15 – 21, 2022, as “PUBLIC WORKS WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
