WHEREAS, civil engineers serve an important role in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public through engineering, design, construction administration, and maintenance of infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina has a long history of civil engineering, from structures such as the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to the Blue Ridge Parkway; and
WHEREAS, civil engineers continue to make improvements to North Carolina's infrastructure, keeping our great state safe and innovative; and
WHEREAS, The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) North Carolina Section is celebrating 100 years of rich history and service; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina commends the ASCE North Carolina Section and its over 2,500 members for their work in growing the profession of civil engineering;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 6, 2023, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS NORTH CAROLINA SECTION” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
