WHEREAS, the Lexington Kiwanis Club was founded on March 26, 1924, in Lexington, North Carolina, with 53 charter members; and
WHEREAS, from the very beginning, the club established helping underprivileged children as their primary objective; and
WHEREAS, in 1928, the club established the Kiddie Kamp, the signature service project that continues to this day as Kamp Kiwanis; and
WHEREAS, in 1945, the Davidson County Commissioners granted the club the right to operate the Davidson County Agricultural Fair as a source of revenue for the Kiddie Kamp; and
WHEREAS, thousands of Davidson County children have been uplifted and encouraged through their experience at Kamp Kiwanis; and
WHEREAS, the Lexington Kiwanis Club celebrates their Centennial Anniversary this month;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 21, 2024, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE LEXINGTON KIWANIS CLUB” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
