WHEREAS, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Lacrosse Team has contributed greatly to our state's reputation of excellence in collegiate sports; and

WHEREAS, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Lacrosse Team became the first-ever five seed to win the National Championship in Division II history; and

WHEREAS, with a final score of 20-5, Lenoir-Rhyne dominated Mercyhurst in the National Title game and gained the second-largest margin of victory in NCAA Division II National Championship history of 15-goal; and

WHEREAS, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Lacrosse Team joins the university’s 1960 Football Team to become the second men’s program in the history of Lenoir-Rhyne Athletics to win a National Championship; and

WHEREAS, not only did the team take home a National Championship Title, but Evan Voss secured the Most Outstanding Player award, and Rob Pensabene made 56 saves in the NCAA Tournament, one shy of the record which has stood since 1977; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to recognize this extraordinary team and wishes them continued success;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 23, 2023, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 2023 LENOIR-RHYNE MEN’S LACROSSE TEAM” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
