WHEREAS, 20 years ago, Clay Aiken and Diane Bubel made it their mission to bring the grand vision of a world where children with disabilities could, and should, have a better opportunity to be fully immersed in the world around them; and

WHEREAS, from that shared vision came the National Inclusion Project, which is headquartered in North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, over the past 20 years, the good works and many success stories of the National Inclusion Project have grown by leaps and bounds, helping thousands of children to live richer, happier lives; and

WHEREAS, today, the National Inclusion Project runs projects in 40 states in its meaningful efforts to bring children with disabilities into mainstream culture so that all children can learn to grow together, side by side; and

WHEREAS, the 20th Anniversary of this trailblazing program will celebrate every child that the National Inclusion Project has helped participate, make a friend, and succeed over the years; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to be home to a program that advocates equality and makes a safe space for every child in our state;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 7, 2023, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIONAL INCLUSION PROJECT” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
