WHEREAS, for 50 years, Ira David Wood’s beloved original musical comedy adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol has entertained audiences in the Triangle and beyond; and

WHEREAS, the production has been called one of the most successful shows in North Carolina theater history; and

WHEREAS, over the past five decades, the musical classic has brought the magic and joy of the holiday season to more than two million people; and

WHEREAS, it would not be Christmas in North Carolina without Theatre In The Park’s rendition of this Dickens classic; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina proudly recognizes Ira David Wood, III for his priceless contributions to our state and to our holiday traditions;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim December 10, 2023, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THEATRE IN THE PARK'S A CHRISTMAS CAROL” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
