WHEREAS, the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated (NSPDK), is a nonprofit, educational sorority founded by eight African American women on May 23, 1923, who desired to establish a sisterhood among teachers and to promote the highest ideals of the teaching profession; and
WHEREAS, the NSPDK is composed of well-trained and effective educators in all areas of the learning spectrum who are engaged in training youth and adults to develop and enhance the skills, abilities, and ethics that will prepare them to function successfully in our diverse society; and
WHEREAS, the NSPDK, Inc. Chapter of Epsilon, Sigma works diligently in North Carolina with youth, parents, and organizations to fulfill their mission and provide scholarship opportunities; and
WHEREAS, members and affiliate members throughout the United States have celebrated the sorority’s 100th Anniversary throughout the 2022 - 2023 school year; celebrations will culminate at the Centennial Conclave; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina commends organizations like the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, who dedicate their efforts to uplifting their communities and furthering education opportunities for all;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 23, 2023, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE NATIONAL SORORITY OF PHI DELTA KAPPA, INC. 100th ANNIVERSARY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
