WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina and the Town of Tryon are pleased to host the 9th Annual Tryon International Film Festival; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina Main Street has recognized the Polk County Film Initiative as a Main Street Champion for dedicated support of downtown businesses of Tryon; and

WHEREAS, the Polk County Film Initiative successfully uses the Tryon International Film Festival as a vehicle to promote Tryon and Western NC as a filmmaking destination/location; and

WHEREAS, this proud event draws visitors and filmmakers from as far away as Europe and Nepal year after year to enjoy the beauty of our Carolina Foothills, movie screenings, gala events, music, food, and dancing; and

WHEREAS, the festival offers an Education Institute, Vendor Expo, and Career Expo, connecting youth and novice filmmakers directly to an audience of veteran filmmakers, financial backers, actors, distributors, and film lovers; and

WHEREAS, through a genuine passion for the craft of filmmaking and the arts, the Polk County Film Initiative's Tryon International Film Festival promotes tourism, the arts, and culture unique to Tryon and North Carolina;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 6 – 8, 2023, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE TRYON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
