WHEREAS, the safety and health of North Carolina workers is fundamental in preventing workplace injuries, illnesses, and deaths; and
WHEREAS, a 2020 report stated that the workplace injury and illness rate in North Carolina is at a historic low of 2.1 per 100 full time workers in the private industry; and
WHEREAS, safety and health programs prevent fatalities and injuries, improve compliance with regulations, reduce costs and increase productivity; and
WHEREAS, Safe + Sound Week is a nationally recognized event that celebrates the successes of businesses that have implemented safety and health programs in the workplace; and
WHEREAS, Safe + Sound Week is an opportunity to improve the lives of North Carolina workers and increase awareness about the need for a strong occupational safety and health program; and
WHEREAS, Safe + Sound Week is an opportunity for North Carolina organizations, regardless of size or industry, to celebrate their commitment of safety to workers, customers, the public and partners;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim August 15 – 21, 2022, as “SAFE + SOUND WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
