WHEREAS, making safety and health education and awareness a daily priority promotes the welfare of all North Carolinians; and

WHEREAS, demonstrating safe behaviors and habits daily can reduce the risk of injuries at home and work; and

WHEREAS, National Safety Month, observed each June, emphasizes ongoing education to help people stay safe and healthy throughout their lifetime; and

WHEREAS, for National Safety Month 2023, the National Safety Council’s focus areas are musculoskeletal disorders, workplace impairment, injury prevention, and slips, trips and falls, representing universal safety concerns; and

WHEREAS, comprehensive, ongoing risk management efforts in the workplace promote hazard reduction and avoidance of many injuries; and

WHEREAS, ongoing safety and health training helps diminish workplace injuries and supports the goal of all state agencies to protect the health and safety of our residents and state employees; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina continues to utilize the Flag The Hazard digital reporting tool for state employees to report hazards observed in their workplace for mitigation and potential elimination; and

WHEREAS, the safety of state employees is shared responsibility for all employees in every state agency, and every state agency should actively promote efforts to recognize and alleviate unsafe workplace conditions; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes the value of hazard awareness, exhibited by its deep commitment to safety and health-related new and existing programs, and urges all North Carolinians to engage in similar pursuits to reduce the occurrence of preventable injuries;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim June, 2023, as “SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
