WHEREAS, school libraries promote literacy, foster an enjoyment of reading, and help students develop the skills they need to access and evaluate information; and
WHEREAS, school libraries offer educational activities designed to enhance reading motivation and establish the information literacy skills necessary for lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, promoting competency in new and developing technologies is an integral part of school libraries; and
WHEREAS, the full potential of school libraries is dependent upon certified professional school librarians whose varied skills support administrators, teachers, and students in effectively engaging a wide range of teaching and learning technologies and information resources; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to recognize the hard work of school library staff and the importance of school libraries in contributing to a life-long interest in learning for students across our state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April, 2023, as “SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
