WHEREAS, approximately 74,000 state employees work in state agencies and public university and community college campuses across North Carolina’s 100 counties; and
WHEREAS, in spite of the challenges facing them, our public sector employees perform their jobs daily with professionalism to provide efficient and effective delivery of services to the people of our state; and
WHEREAS, state employees positively impact daily life through education, transportation, agriculture, environmental quality, information technology, health care, science, public safety, and many other areas; and
WHEREAS, millions of North Carolina residents and visitors benefit daily from the effort, unwavering dedication, commitment, and contributions of state employees; and
WHEREAS, state government strives to include a diverse workforce that represents the needs and perspectives of the communities it serves; and
WHEREAS, the public services faithfully provided by state employees make North Carolina one of the best places to live in the nation, earning it consistently high rankings for business, climate, and livability;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 7 – 13, 2023, as “STATE EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION WEEK” and May 10, 2023, as “STATE EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
