WHEREAS, nearly 77,000 state employees work for state agencies, public universities, and community colleges across all 100 of North Carolina’s counties; and

WHEREAS, these dedicated state employees perform their jobs daily with professionalism to provide efficient and effective services to the people of our state; and

WHEREAS, state employees have a positive impact on North Carolinians’ daily life in the areas of education, transportation, agriculture, environmental quality, information technology, health care, science, public safety, and many other areas; and

WHEREAS, millions of North Carolina residents and visitors benefit daily from the behind-the-scenes effort, commitment, and hard work of state employees; and

WHEREAS, state government strives to engage a diverse workforce that represents the needs and perspectives of the communities it serves, including employees with a variety of ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientation, and ages; and

WHEREAS, the public services faithfully provided by state employees makes North Carolina one of the best places to live in the nation, earning it consistently high rankings for business, climate, and livability;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 1 – 7, 2022, as “STATE EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION WEEK” and May 4, 2022, as “STATE EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
