WHEREAS, we honor the more than 3 million Americans who served in the Vietnam War and pay tribute to those who lost their lives due to the conflict, and we reaffirm our dedication to showing a generation of veterans the respect and support of a grateful Nation; and
WHEREAS, Americans from every corner of our Nation reported for duty during the Vietnam War, and we are grateful for their services and their sacrifices; and
WHEREAS, thousands of servicemembers returned home from the conflict, burdened by visible scars as well as the invisible wounds of post-traumatic stress, Agent Orange exposure, and memories that would never fade; and
WHEREAS, we bear witness to the more than 58,000 names etched into two faces of black granite in our Nation’s Capital, a lasting memorial to those who bore conflict's greatest cost; and
WHEREAS, today, we reaffirm one of our most fundamental obligations: to show all who have worn the uniform of the United States the respect and dignity they deserve and to honor their sacrifice by serving them as well as they served us; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina and our Nation are grateful for their strength and their service; on Vietnam Veterans Day, we honor their proud legacy with our deepest appreciation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 29, 2023, as “VIETNAM VETERANS DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
