Women's History Month

2025

By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina

A Proclamation

Whereas, North Carolina is proud to be home to dedicated and inspiring women who have played a vital role in the history, culture, and progress of our nation and state from its earliest days to the present; and

Whereas, women in North Carolina have long been at the forefront of advancing education and championing the growth and success of future generations, from pioneering educators like Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown who founded and led the Palmer Memorial Institute to the many women who serve in classrooms and universities across the state; and

Whereas, the 2025 national theme for Women's History Month is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations,” celebrating the collective strength and influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership; and

Whereas, the contributions of women in education extend beyond traditional classrooms as they lead movements for social justice, community empowerment, environmental sustainability, and innovation all in a welcoming and tolerant environment; and

Whereas, as we move forward together in 2025, we recognize the significant influence of women who educate and inspire across diverse fields—science, technology, arts, business, health care, and government—working to pave the way for future generations; and

Whereas, despite the progress made, we acknowledge that barriers still exist for many women, particularly women of color, LGBTQ+ women, women in rural areas, and women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who continue to fight for equal access to opportunities in education and employment; and

Whereas, North Carolina reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all women, regardless of background, have the resources and support they need to educate, inspire, and lead with excellence, thereby contributing to the collective success of our state; and

Whereas, North Carolina joins other states in honoring the legacy of all women who changed the world by contributing to the economic, cultural, and social development of our state in countless ways;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 2025, as “Women's History Month” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-sixth day of February  in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
