WHEREAS, World Cord Blood Day recognizes the need to expand cord blood education globally; and
WHEREAS, World Cord Blood Day's purpose is to educate and build awareness of these lifesaving cells as a medical resource; to date there has been over 40,000 cord blood transplants; and
WHEREAS, doctors and their patients are struggling every day to find stem cell matches, it is important to find cord blood stem cells that match; and
WHEREAS, 28 states mandated cord blood education for expectant families; governments and health care policy developers need relevant and accurate information on cord blood stem cells to establish policy regarding the medical potential and current uses of cord blood stem cells; and
WHEREAS, cord blood stem cells are currently used to treat over 80 different life-threatening diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 15, 2021, as “WORLD CORD BLOOD DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
