YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP WEEK

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Youth Apprenticeship Week is celebrating its inaugural year of raising awareness of the vital role that apprenticeships play in providing job opportunities and pathways to the youth of North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes both Youth Apprenticeship and other Registered Apprenticeship programs as proven, industry-driven training models that foster improvements in job quality while creating access to good-paying, family-sustaining jobs for all, starting with youth and young adults; and
WHEREAS, a growing number of employers around the state recognize the value of Youth Apprenticeship in developing a diverse, educated, and talented workforce in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Governor Roy Cooper has declared 2024 as the Year of Public Schools in North Carolina, and that our public schools play an integral role in providing essential avenues for career exploration and development, thereby shaping the future of our state's workforce; and
WHEREAS, employers, the K-12 public education system, community colleges, local workforce development boards, and non-profit organizations in partnership with ApprenticeshipNC have created youth apprenticeships in high-growth, high-demand occupations; and
WHEREAS, youth around the state are turning to apprenticeships to help them explore and start careers and pursue relevant education, industry competencies, and credentials; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina has committed itself to strengthen talent development pipelines for all industry sectors that simultaneously open the doors of opportunity to youth and young adults – our future workforce;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 5 – 11, 2024, as “YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
