Governor Roy Cooper has named Utilities Commissioner Charlotte Mitchell to serve as the next Chairperson of the North Carolina Utilities Commission effective immediately. On Friday, Chairman Edward Finley, Jr. submitted his resignation from the commission to the Governor.
“Commissioner Mitchell is a dedicated public servant who will serve the best interests of North Carolina as chair of the Utilities Commission,” said Governor Cooper. “I thank Chairman Finley for his service and wish him well.”
On May 1, Cooper nominated three individuals to serve on the Commission: Senator Floyd McKissick, Kimberly Duffley and Jeff Hughes. The legislature is required to confirm these nominees before they can serve but has not yet done so. Mitchell’s term as chair is scheduled to last two years.
