District-by-District Figures: Governor Cooper’s School Support Personnel Funding in Your Area Understanding the Local Impact of Governor Cooper’s Increased Allotment for Support Personnel

After proclaiming May 8-12 Teacher Appreciation Week, Governor Cooper is calling on the legislature to support his budget’s funding for school support personnel. Governor Cooper’s budget proposal, Common Ground Solutions for North Carolina, allotted $20 million in flexible funding for schools to hire additional instructional support personnel—teaching assistants, assistant principals, nurses, behavioral support staff and others.
 
New data released today show how each local district would benefit from Governor Cooper’s proposals.
 
“To succeed, we must make sure our kids have the support they need,” said Governor Cooper. “My budget recommends investments in support personnel like teaching assistants and nurses, who help our students in every facet of their education. I urge the General Assembly to make this investment.”
 
In addition, Governor Cooper’s budget—which doesn’t raise taxes or fees— would raise average teacher pay 10% over two years and give teachers a direct annual stipend of $150 to offset out-of-pocket expenses for classroom supplies.
