Eleven Days and Still No Budget Counteroffer from Republican Leaders Meanwhile, Statewide Momentum for Medicaid Expansion Builds

Raleigh
Jul 19, 2019

It has been eleven days since Governor Roy Cooper and Democratic leaders offered a compromise proposal to end the state budget impasse and Republican leaders have not yet proposed a counteroffer.

Cooper’s compromise would close the health care coverage gap, raise teacher pay, cut taxes for people and guarantee school construction while balancing the budget and saving money in the Rainy Day Fund. It also included all the local projects that were in the Republican legislative budget. For more on that compromise offer, click HERE

Where is the Republican counter proposal?

While North Carolinians wait for Republican leaders to return a counteroffer, support for Medicaid expansion has been building across the state. Cooper was in Brunswick County, Goldsboro and Raleigh this week hearing from hospitals, workers and families who fall in the health care coverage gap about how Medicaid expansion is needed in North Carolina.

Here’s a look at the week’s coverage statewide.
