Governor Roy Cooper has appointed a new judge to preside in Mecklenburg County District Court.

“I’m pleased to appoint Tracy Hewett to the bench, where I believe her experience as a public defender and her service to the community will be great assets,” Gov. Cooper said.

Tracy Hewett will serve as a District Court Judge for Judicial District 26 in Mecklenburg County. Since graduating from North Carolina Central School of Law, she has proudly served as a Mecklenburg County Public Defender. She brings 13 years of legal experience to her new judicial position. An active member of her community, Hewett has served in numerous community service and professional organizations.

The seat Hewett will hold was previously held by Yolanda Trotman, who left the bench in January.
