Gov. Cooper Honors North Carolinians Competing in 2018 Winter Olympics

Governor Roy Cooper signed a proclamation in recognition of North Carolinians competing in the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea February 9-25 and March 9-18.

North Carolina is the home state of three of the athletes competing for Team USA in the Olympic Winter Games: Heather Bergsma, Kimani Griffin, and Bobby Sanguinetti. Heather Bergsma of High Point will be competing in long track speed skating. Kimani Griffin of Winston-Salem will be competing in long track speed skating. Bobby Sanguinetti of Wilmington will be competing in ice hockey.

"Often, competing in the Olympics is the pinnacle of an athlete’s career, and I am proud of our North Carolina competitors,” said Gov. Cooper. “Kristin and I look forward to watching North Carolinians compete in the Olympics this year, and we wish them and the rest of Team USA the best.”
