Governor Roy Cooper has named veteran prosecutor Jacqueline Perez to serve as interim District Attorney for Caswell and Person counties after the resignation of former DA Wallace Bradsher on Friday.

Perez is currently an Assistant Attorney General with the North Carolina Department of Justice where she prosecutes criminal fraud by Medicaid providers.

She previously served as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting cases at all levels in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. She prosecuted felony and misdemeanor cases in Superior and District Court, handled juvenile court adjudications and represented the state in Mental Health and Drug Courts.

She graduated from Tulane University and the UNC School of Law.

Perez lives in Hurdle Mills in southern Person County. She is a long-time community volunteer, previously serving on the board of Volunteers for Youth and the Family Violence Prevention Center in Orange County.

Gov. Cooper said her extensive experience as a prosecutor will serve the judicial district of Person and Caswell counties well.

“Ms. Perez will provide the steady leadership this office needs so it can continue its important work prosecuting cases and protecting the people of Caswell and Person counties,” Gov. Cooper said.
