Gov. Cooper Offers Reward in Surry County Murder Case

<p>Governor Roy Cooper today announced that the State of North Carolina is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Charlie Winfield Spann.</p>

Governor Roy Cooper today announced that the State of North Carolina is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Charlie Winfield Spann.

On Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at approximately 11:51 a.m., the Surry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting on Freemont Lane in Elkin. Deputies found Charlie Winfield Spann, age 72, lying in the driveway of his residence, having been shot multiple times with a shotgun. Mr. Spann died as a result of his injuries.
