Gov. Cooper Signs One Bill, Vetoes Another

Today, Governor Cooper signed the following bill into law: 

Gov. Cooper shared the following comment on Senate Bill 230:

"Our veterans deserve access to education, good jobs and a better quality of life for their families, and this legislation helps accomplish those goals."

 

Gov. Cooper also vetoed the following bill:

Gov. Cooper shared the following comment on Senate Bill 438:

"Teaching children to read well is a critical goal for their future success, but recent evaluations show that Read to Achieve is ineffective and costly. A contract dispute over the assessment tool adds to uncertainty for educators and parents. This legislation tries to put a Band-Aid on a program where implementation has clearly failed."
