Governor Announces Boards and Commissions Appointments

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announces North Carolina boards and commissions appointments. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Acupuncture Licensing Board:
•    Emmylou Norfleet of Asheville as a licensed acupuncturist. Norfleet has been working as an acupuncturist and herbologist at the Chinese Acupuncture and Herbology Clinic in Asheville since 1999. She has also been working at Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medicine as a clinic observation director, safety officer, and faculty member since 2009. 
 
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging:
•    Dr. Brenda Cleary of Cary as a member-at-large. Cleary is adjunct faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill where she teaches graduate level classes on health policy. She previously served as the executive director of the NC Center for Nursing. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Auctioneers Commission:
•    Buck Lattimore of Raleigh as an auctioneer. Lattimore is a North Carolina licensed auctioneer and real estate broker. He is active in the Auctioneers Association of North Carolina where he has served on the Board of Directors. He previously served as chair of the North Carolina Industrial Commission. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Beaufort County Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Colonel Kathleen L. Simpson of Washington as a member-at-large. Simpson has served in the Army Nurse Corps for 29 years. She currently serves as the vice chair of the Beaufort County Community College Board of Trustees and is a member of the Washington Tourism Development Authority. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Blue Ridge Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Dr. Jeremy Richard Gibbs of Brevard as a member-at-large. Gibbs is the state education agency administrator at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Previously, he has served as central services administrator of Transylvania County Schools.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Brunswick Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Ronnie Jenkins of Leland as a member-at-large. Jenkins is a retired educator from the Brunswick County School System. He worked in a variety of positions in Brunswick County for more than 30 years, including as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute Board of Trustees:
•    Wongalee Thomas of Lenoir as a member-at-large. Thomas worked at Blue Ridge Energy corporation for 18 years before retiring in 2018. She currently serves on the Caldwell County Education Foundation board of directors. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Carteret Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Rosa Langston of Newport as a member-at-large. Langston has 40 years of experience teaching comprehensive business education, vocational education, and guidance and counseling. She currently serves as a Counselor and Teacher at United Methodist Church-P4P Reading Program. Previously, she has served as a Guidance Counselor at Crystal Coast Academy Charter School. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Central Piedmont Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Edwin A. Dalrymple, Jr. of Charlotte as a member-at-large. Dalrymple is a managing director of investments at Wells Fargo Advisory. He also serves as the chairman of the Central Piedmont Community College Board of Trustees.   

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the College of the Albemarle Board of Trustees:
•    Travis Gilliard of Edenton as a member-at-large. Gilliard is a registered pharmacist with 36 years of experience in the field of pharmacy. He has practiced pharmacy in retail, at hospitals, and educationally. He has worked as a pharmacist at Martin General Hospital in Williamston since 1997. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Craven Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Tabari A. Wallace of New Bern as a member-at-large. Wallace is the principal of West Craven High School in Craven County. He was named the Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year in 2018. He has been an educator for 19 years and has also served as principal of H.J. MacDonald Middle School, and of Havelock Middle School. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Governor’s Crime Commission:
•    Marsha L. Johnson of Lillington as a clerk of a superior court. Johnson is the Clerk of Superior Court for Harnett County. She is a member of the North Carolina Paralegal Association and has served as Historian, Second Vice-President and President from 1999-2001. Johnson will serve as President of the NC Conference of Clerks of Superior Court beginning August 2019.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Davidson County Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Dr. William P. Steed of Advance as a member-at-large. Dr. Steed has led a 43-year career in public education in which he has served as an assistant principal, principal, and superintendent in multiple school districts. Bill is a Charter Member of the North Carolina Association of School Administrators, as well as a former NCHSAA Board of Directors member. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Edgecombe Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Margaret Anne Wooten of Tarboro as a member-at-large. Wooten is the majority shareholder and finance director at Kanban Logistics. She is also a founding director and investor of Providence Bank. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individuals to the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission:
•    Donna Davis of Ansonville as a member-at-large. Davis recently retired as the Stanly County utility director and Stanly Water and Sewer Authority executive director. She is also the past chair of Yadkin Pee Dee River Basin Association. 
•    John McAdams of Chapel Hill as a licensed engineer with specialized training and experience in water supply. McAdams is the founder and chairman of McAdams. He is also the former chair of Triangle Land Conservancy. 
•    Maggie Monast of Durham as a member experienced in agriculture. Monast is the senior manager of agricultural sustainability at the Environmental Defense Fund. 
•    Pat Harris of Williamston as a member with special training or scientific expertise in hydrology. Harris recently retired as the soil and water conservation division director at the NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services. 
•    Yvonne Bailey of Carolina Beach as a member retired from an industrial manufacturing facility. Bailey is a retired assistant general counsel and senior environmental attorney of Martin Marietta Materials. She is a previous member of the Environmental Management Commission and the Mining Commission. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Fayetteville Technical Community College Board of Trustees:
•    William “Billy” Wellons, Jr. of Fayetteville as a member-at-large. Wellons currently runs and operates W.S. Wellons Realty, Inc. He is also the president of Wellco Contractors, and the owner and partner of P.W.P. Hospitality Management, Co. Previously, he served as a member of the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Forsyth Technical Community College Board of Trustees:
•    James T. Flythe, Jr. of Winston Salem as a member-at-large. Flythe serves as the director of government and community relations at Duke Energy. Currently, he serves as chair of the Truliant Federal Credit Union and Wilkes County Chamber of Commerce. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Haywood Community College Board of Trustees: 
•    Rhonda Cole Schandevel of Canton as a member-at-large. Schandevel has been a registered dental hygienist for 35 years and practices at Smoky Mountain Dentistry in Haywood County. She has been serving on the Arc of Haywood County board since 1992 and served on the Haywood County Board of Education from 2012 to 2016. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individuals to the Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force:
•    Deborah Holt Noel of Raleigh as a news director of a newspaper, television, or radio station. Noel is a producer and on-air talent at UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina, North Carolina’s statewide PBS network. She is also the producer, and occasional host, of UNC-Tv’s Black Issues Forum, covering topics related to politics, public policy, and social issues. 
•    Yolanda Dickerson of Raleigh as a volunteer of the NC affiliate of the American Heart Association. Dickerson is active in the American Heart Association as a volunteer leader. She has served as both the chair and vice-chair of the North Carolina AHA Advocacy Coordinating Committee. She was recognized as the AHA Survivor Advocate of the Year in 2013. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Historical Commission:
•    Samuel Bobbitt Dixon of Edenton as a professional historian. Dixon is the owner and manager of Dixon & Thompson Law, PLLC. He serves on the board of trustees of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the board of directors of the NC Museum of History Foundation and on the North Carolinian Society.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the James Sprunt Community College Board of Trustees:
•    John T. Phillips, Jr. of Warsaw as a member-at-large. Phillips is currently the director of purchasing and warehouse logistics for Smithfield Foods, where he is responsible for sourcing and delivering vaccines, medications, and supplies to farming operations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Missouri.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Johnston Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Reverend Oliver Johnson, Jr. of Smithfield as a member-at-large. Johnson is the pastor and founder of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Selma. Before he retired in 2017, he served as assistant superintendent for student services for Johnston County Public Schools. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Lenoir Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Warren Hardy Creech II of Kinston as a Member At-Large. Creech is the president of four Realo Discount Drug Stores in Kinston, Snow Hill, and Goldsboro. He is a past member of the Lenoir County Committee of 100. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the McDowell Technical Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Robert L. Ayers of Marion as a member-at-large. Ayers owned and operated several businesses during his career including the Ayers Food Service, Joseph A. Scott, LTD and Danielle’s Frozen Yogurt. Ayers serves as Chair of the Marion ABC Board and served on the Marion City Council for 12 years.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Mitchell Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Shawn Huggins of Mooresville as a member-at-large. Huggins began working for Lowe’s Home Improvement in 2008. Currently, he serves as a senior project manager, leading multi-million dollar initiatives.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Nash Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Laura S. O’Neal of Rocky Mount as a member-at-large. O’Neal served as a social worker for the Nash County Department of Social Service, where she worked in a supervisor role and as a clinical social worker. She also served as the director of the Nash County Department of Social Services. O’Neal serves on the Nash Edgecombe Economic Development Board, My Sister’s House and Communities in Schools.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Pitt Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Tyree R. Walker of Greenville as a member-at-large. Walker is a human resources executive who has more than 30 years of experience in the field. He retired from Vidant Medical Center as vice president of human resources. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors:
•    Maureen H. Clark of Southern Pines as a member-at-large. Clark is the founder of Clark Properties, a local real estate office for Sotheby’s International Realty and York Simpson Underwood of Raleigh. Previously, she worked for 20 years as an editorial columnist for the Fayetteville Observer Times and as a director of a private nonprofit organization working with children’s services at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individuals to the State Property Tax Commission:
•    Terry L. Wheeler of Manteo as a member-at-large. Wheeler worked for Dare County where he served as County Manager. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of Babe Ruth Baseball International. 
•    June W. Michaux of Durham as a member-at-large. Michaux served as the director of internal operations for the North Carolina Department of Administration.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Roanoke Island Historical Association:
•    Johnny Tillett of Apex as a member-at-large. Tillett is a senior vice president of McGuire Woods Consulting and serves in the state government relations group. He serves on the Roanoke Island Freedmen’s Colony Preservation board. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Rockingham Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Libby Maddrey of Eden as a member at-large. Maddrey has served on the USS North Carolina Battleship Commission, the NC Library Commission and the Chowan College Board of Trustees. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individuals to the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Dakeita Vanderburg-Johnson of Concord as a member-at-large. Vanderburg-Johnson is a realtor with Allen Tate’s Team Honeycutt. She also serves on the Cabarrus Arts Council.  
•    Wilmer Melton III of Kannapolis as a member at-large. Melton is the director of public works for the City of Kannapolis. He previously served as vice-president of the Cabarrus County Meals on Wheels board of directors. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Sampson Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Mike Warren of Dunn as a member-at-large. Warren has served as interim superintendent of Sampson County Schools, superintendent of Currituck County Schools and assistant superintendent for human resources of Asheboro City Schools. He is a member of the North Carolina Association of School Administrators. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Sandhills Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Irish Pickett of Raeford as a member- at-large. Pickett is a retired educator who has over 36 years of experience in both instructional and administrative leadership in Moore, Cumberland, and Hoke County Schools. She has been a member of the Hoke County School Board since 2006 and currently serves as chair. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the South Piedmont Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Sheriff Landric Reid of Wadesboro as a Resident of Anson County. Reid currently serves as Sheriff of Anson County. Previously, he has served with the United States Army, as well as the North Carolina National Guard.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Stanly Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Lisa B. Burris of Albemarle as a member at-large. Burris was a development director for Hospice of Stanly County and was involved with local charitable and volunteer organizations for over thirty-five years. She has also served on the Stanly Community College Foundation board and was their immediate past president.  

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Tri-County Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Betty Anderson of Hayesville as a member-at-large. Anderson has been a member of the Hayesville Civitan Club since 2009. Previously, she worked as a public-school teacher primarily in Clay County from 1969 to 2002. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Dr. Dorwin L. Howard of Oxford as a member-at-large. Howard worked in public schools for 37 years. He spent time as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent. Howard was most recently Superintendent of Granville County Public Schools from 2014-2017. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Veterans Affairs Commission:
•    Phillip McNair of Plymouth as a representative of the 1st Congressional District. McNair served as operation chief assistance antiterrorism officer at Camp Lejeune headquarters & support battalion from 2008 to 2011. Prior, he served in the Marine Air-Ground Task Force from 2005 to 2008. He has also worked as an equal opportunity advisor in the Marine Corps Air Station. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board:
•    Dr. Susan Bull of Candler as a licensed veterinarian. Bull is a senior associate veterinarian at the Animal Hospital of Waynesville, where she has worked since 1994. She is currently the vice president of the NC Veterinary Medical Board. 

Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Wilkes Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Dr. Pam Scott of Moravian Falls as a member-at-large. Scott currently serves as a professor at East Tennessee State University, where she is a graduate program coordinator. 
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Wilson Community College Board of Trustees:
•    Jan Rountree of Elm City as a member-at-large. Rountree has worked for 30 years in instruction and counseling. Previously, she served as a community college counselor for Nash Community College and as a Guidance Counselor at Ralph L. Fike High School.
