Gov. Cooper today proclaimed June 14 to be the birthday of the U.S. Army in North Carolina, 243 years after the Second Continental Congress established the Army. Since the War for Independence, the U.S. Armed Forces have continued the tradition of securing our freedoms.

Home to the country’s largest Army installation, North Carolina has earned the title of the most military-friendly state in the nation. With this recognition, Gov. Cooper is honored to observe the Army’s 243rd birthday.

The impact of the Army across North Carolina extends beyond Fort Bragg through the Army Research Office in Durham, the National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, and the National Guard Air Station in Charlotte.

“Happy Birthday to the U.S. Army,” said Governor Cooper. “Today’s celebration is a terrific opportunity to reflect on the Army’s contributions to our state and our country and thank the brave men and women who have served so honorably.”

The proclamation can be read here.
