Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced 11 appointments to various state boards and commissions.
“These boards and commissions do important work for our state and I’m thankful that these talented North Carolinians are willing to serve,” said Governor Cooper.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Lottery Commission:
- Hon. Anthony E. Rand of Fayetteville as Chair. Senator Rand served in the in the NC General Assembly from 1981 to 2009 including as Senate Majority Leader from 2001 to 2009. He has served as president of Rand and Gregory, Practicing Attorneys since 1993.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individuals to the Social Services Commission:
- Andy Anderson of Whiteville as a Representative of the 7th Congressional District. Anderson is the Director of Development for Community Based Care, LLC. He is the vice chair of the NC Rural Center Board of Directors.
- Dan Briggs of Lexington as a Representative of the 13th Congressional District. Briggs is the treasurer for Davidson Funeral Home. He previously served on the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Motor Vehicle Reinsurance Facility Board of Governors:
- Mark Royster of Oxford as a Public member. Royster is the Assistant Pastor of First Baptist Church-Chapel Hill. He is chair of the Professional Advisory Group on Pastoral Care for UNC Hospitals and member of the Non-Medical Review Board of UNC-CH. Royster is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Apex School of Theology.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Supplemental Retirement Board of Trustees:
- James Lumsden of Raleigh as a member with experience in finance and investments. Lumsden is the President of Fairview Land & Venture LLC and an investor and director of American Timberlands Company, LLC. He previously served as chair of the Raleigh Arts Commission.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities:
- Dawn Allen of Albemarle as a member at-large. Allen has been the Chief Executive Officer of GHA Autism Supports since 1984. She serves as chair of the Stanly Regional Medical Center Advisory Council and is a member of the Albemarle Rotary Club.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individuals to the North Carolina Grievance Resolution Board:
- Phyllis Leary of Wilson as a member knowledgeable about corrections. Leary served as a Judicial District Manager until 2013. Previously, Leary was a Community Corrections Analyst, and a Chief Probation and Parole Officer.
- Captain David W. Addison of Mebane as an attorney nominated by the State Bar. Addison currently serves as an Executive Officer to the Deputy Chiefs and as a Captain of the Durham Police Department. Addison was the Chairman for Durham County’s Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and President of the Durham County Police Benevolence Association.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individuals to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission:
- Wendell Bullard of Durham as a licensed real estate broker. Bullard is the managing broker at Bullard Properties, LLC. Bullard has spent over 22 years in the real estate industry working with Prudential Carolina Realty, and Realty Executives Triangle Southpointe, where he is a Co-Owner. Bullard served as President of the NC Association of REALTORS in 2008 and was the recipient of the REALTOR of the Year award in 2012.
- Jeff Malarney of Wanchese as a licensed real estate broker. Malarney is a lawyer and also the Founder of H2OBX Water Park and serves as General Counsel for Twiddy and Company of Duck, Inc. Previously, Malarney was a Special Assistant United States Attorney and Chairman of the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the James Sprunt Community College Board of Trustees:
- Anita Powers of Wallace as a member at-large. Powers is an attorney in private practice and worked previously as an Assistant District Attorney for Cumberland and Hoke counties. She also served on the Duplin County Board of Commissioners. Powers is a Diamond Life Member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
