Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed May 7 Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor the North Carolina officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. This proclamation recognizes the sacrifices these officers and their families have made, and the Governor released a video message in their honor.

“The men and women we remember today gave their lives to protect ours. Because of that we can never properly thank these brave officers,” Gov. Cooper said. “But we can honor their lives and their memories by pausing to reflect on their contributions.”

Governor Cooper also declared the month of May as Law Enforcement Officers Month in North Carolina. Law enforcement officers protect the safety of their communities every day, and their roles are as critical as ever as this state battles COVID-19.
