Today, Governor Roy Cooper joined a group of military veterans, servicemembers, and their families at the State Capitol in Raleigh for a wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the sacrifices military veterans have made for our state and our country.
Gov. Cooper shared the following statement on Veterans Day:
“Our military veterans have made selfless sacrifices to preserve our freedoms, protect our safety, and make our state and our country stronger. We owe these brave men and women our deepest gratitude for their tireless service. We also owe them the opportunity to make abundant, purposeful lives for themselves when their military service ends, including transitioning into civilian careers and getting access to the health care they deserve. This Veterans Day, let us reflect on all that our military veterans have done for us and consider all that we can do in return.”
North Carolina is home to the third-largest military population in the country, including more than 792,000 veterans. This fall, Gov. Cooper has recognized the critical role members of our military, veterans, and their families play in improving our state through various events and proclamations, including declaring November Military Family Appreciation Month.
Last month, Gov. Cooper also highlighted the contributions military and veteran-owned businesses make to our economy by declaring October 30 - November 3, 2017 North Carolina Military Veterans Small Business Week. Earlier this week, Gov. Cooper encouraged employers across the state to hire veterans and promoted NCWorks career services by declaring November 6 - 10, 2017 Employ a Veteran Week.
