Governor Cooper shared the following statement on Juneteenth:

Juneteenth is a day to remember the ugly scars of slavery and recommit ourselves to freedom and justice for all people. We acknowledge June 19, 1865 as the day that news of freedom for African Americans reached the farthest corners of our nation. I encourage all North Carolinians to reflect on the history, bravery and contributions of African Americans across our state and nation.
