Today, Governor Roy Cooper visited a vaccine clinic at the Lenoir County Health Department to encourage more North Carolinians get their COVID-19 shot.
“It’s great to see more people across the state stepping up to get their lifesaving vaccine,” Governor Cooper said. “Each shot gets us closer to emerging stronger on the other side of this pandemic. Let’s encourage our loved ones to get a shot now so we can get there even sooner.”
The clinic is distributing $100 cash cards to people getting their first dose and $25 cash cards to their drivers. Along with serving people in-person, the department goes into the community to administer vaccines to people who are homebound.
“It is an honor to do the important work of Public Health for the residents of Lenoir County,” said Lenoir County Health Director Pam Brown. “The pandemic has been a tremendous challenge for all of us. I am thankful to the Lenoir County leadership, health department staff, and many partners who did not waver in serving the residents of our community even when the challenges seemed overwhelming.”
On Friday, Gov. Cooper and state health leaders sent a letter to school boards to urge them to adopt the StrongSchoolsNC Public Health Toolkit to protect their students and staff in the new school year. The letter outlines the increase of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in children and offers assistance to implement the toolkit health protections.
To date, North Carolina has administered more than 10 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 58 percent of the adult population fully vaccinated. Sixty-three percent of adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine, including 87 percent of people 65 and over. With the more contagious Delta variant spreading across the state, Governor Cooper urges people to get their shot quickly.
