Governor Roy Cooper issued the following statement on House Bill 186:

Today, Governor Roy Cooper and Attorney General Josh Stein have taken steps to withdraw the state’s petition for a Writ of Certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court of State of North Carolina V. North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP, the voting restrictions law overturned by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals last year.

Governor Cooper released a new video today on his multi-year plan to raise teacher salaries to first in the Southeast in three years and at least the national average in five years. The Governor’s plan includes an average 5% raise this year and another average 5% the next year. This is the largest two-year investment in North Carolina teacher salaries in the last decade.

In a letter today, the Governor’s Office informed Senate Rules Chairman Bill Rabon that the Senate’s announced plan for cabinet confirmation hearings violates a court order issued last week.

Corning Incorporated and its subsidiary, Corning Optical Communications LLC, will invest $176 million in facilities in Catawba and Cabarrus counties, creating 410 jobs over the next two years, Governor Cooper announced today.

Governor Roy Cooper today announced that the State of North Carolina is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the disappearance of Amy Wells Bridgeman.
