From the mountains to portions of the coast, snowfall amounts will continue to climb and temperatures fall creating more hazardous road conditions. Governor Cooper says the reports of traffic accidents have been increasing throughout the day and he continues to encourage extreme caution for those who must venture out.
As North Carolina braces for a second widespread winter storm in less than a month, Governor Roy Cooper today declared a state of emergency and urged North Carolinians to stay off the roads when travel becomes dangerous.
With the return of cold weather and the possibility of snow in the forecast for many parts of North Carolina, the state is making preparations and Governor Cooper reminded residents that they should be prepared for another round of winter weather.
Governor Roy Cooper has appointed new members to serve on several state boards and commissions, including the NCWorks Commission, the North Carolina Medical Board and the Youth Advisory Council.
Today, Gov. Roy Cooper announced two new judicial appointments for courts serving Mecklenburg County and Surry and Stokes counties.
“These appointees will bring strong legal experience to their new appointments along with proven dedication to their communities,” Gov. Cooper said. “They will be valuable additions to our courts.”
Following an announcement late yesterday that the Trump Administration will exempt Florida from its plan to open Atlantic and Pacific coastal waters to offshore drilling, Governor Cooper today urged Interior Department Secretary Ryan Zinke to grant an exemption for North Carolina. Gov. Cooper requested a meeting with the Secretary to explain the critical threat drilling and seismic testing pose to North Carolina’s coastal communities, economy and environment. The state is also exploring legal options to prevent offshore drilling.
After Senate Republicans adjourned this afternoon’s special session, the General Assembly missed yet another opportunity to address the unfunded class-size mandate causing budget crunches in schools or provide the resources DEQ and DHHS have requested to combat emerging contaminants statewide. While roads continue to improve from last week’s winter storm, persistent cold temperatures mean ice and snow linger in some areas and drivers should use caution, Governor Roy Cooper reminded North Carolinians Saturday.
Governor Roy Cooper today urged legislative Republicans to provide funding for smaller class sizes to phase in the currently unfunded mandate when they convene in Raleigh next week. The governor’s comments followed a visit to Cotswold Elementary School in Charlotte, where he met with students, teachers, support staff, and administrators.
