State emergency and transportation officials are closely monitoring weather and road conditions, and are ready to respond if needed as North Carolina receives the season’s first blast of winter weather, Governor Roy Cooper said Friday.

The open enrollment period for health insurance plans for 2018 closes on December 15, 2017. North Carolinians who do not receive health insurance through their employer have an opportunity to compare plans and sign up for quality coverage through HealthCare.gov or calling toll-free 1-800-318-2596.

Spirit AeroSystems, one of the world's largest independent suppliers of commercial airplane parts, says it plans to expand its operations at N.C. Global TransPark, investing an additional $55.7 million over the next five years. Governor Cooper welcomed the decision Thursday, describing it as a major step forward for eastern North Carolina and the state's aerospace industry.

VEKA has chosen Burke County for its fourth North American facility, creating 102 full-time jobs over five years, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The company, a leader in vinyl window profile systems and supplier of fence, deck and rail products, will invest $18 million with this project.
