On Monday, Governor Cooper met with Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen at Raleigh-Durham International Airport to discuss disaster response and recovery.
Gov. Cooper and Sec. Nielsen briefly spoke in private, then were joined by FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Albie Lewis, North Carolina House of Representatives Speaker Tim Moore and staff. Gov. Cooper thanked Sec. Nielsen for federal support North Carolina has received throughout Hurricane Florence, especially from the U.S. Coast Guard and FEMA. The two leaders discussed ongoing challenges around fuel supply, road closures, wastewater and other issues and pledged to stay in touch on recovery efforts moving forward.
Following the meeting, Gov. Cooper departed RDU to survey flood damage in New Bern.
