Ahead of the release of his short session budget, Governor Roy Cooper today shared his recommendations and requests to improve school safety and youth mental health. The Governor’s budget will recommend $130 million to protect students and prevent school violence. Cooper announced his school safety package at Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough where he was joined by educators, school support personnel and law enforcement.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that the State is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murders of Asia Brown, 22 years old, and her son, Ashton Brown, 2 years old.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that the State is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting and attempted carjacking of Ms. Robie Hunt, 49 years old.

The state is preparing for another round of winter weather, with snow and ice expected to impact western North Carolina this weekend.

With some melting yesterday and temperatures on the rise again today, North Carolina’s interstates and major highways are in good shape, but many secondary roads and neighborhood streets are still treacherous. Governor Cooper urged everyone to be patient just a little while longer before venturing out and to drive carefully if they do.

Despite temperatures reaching above freezing this afternoon and some snow starting to melt, roads remain slick across much of the state. Another night of below freezing temperatures will likely cause continuing hazardous travel conditions, Governor Roy Cooper warned.
